My Latest Project...

I've been working on these art dolls for awhile...and I'm ready to take pics and get them posted on my Etsy shop:
Now, I have difficulty getting good pictures of my crafts. No matter what I try, or how many different lighting effects or how many shots I take, I'm never happy with the results. I just end up taking close-up shots with a blank white background.
So I thought I'd try something different with these dolls in an attempt to capture the feeling I want to convey: they are the Deadutantes (a play on debutantes, of course) and they are dressed up for the ball, laughter, and dancing. All dolled up, so to speak.  I want to show a fanciful combination of gothic and baroque influence.  These pics just didn't do it for me, so I'm going to have to try again.
Perhaps I can "antique" the pics on the computer and use one or two, along with white background shots.
I need to show the "cuteness" factor too, which is more bright and cheery.

I'd love any feedback on these dolls and the pics from above! :)

  1. Melanie,
I just got home and saw your email. I checked out both of them and love them both. I'm not sure which I like better. I LOVE the dolls. I was cracking up. They are hysterical. You're so clever. Let me check on them both again in the morning when I'm fresh, well in the afternoon when I'm fresh since I'm not a morning person, we're tired and it's bedtime! TTYL. Julie

  2. Ok Melanie,
I got some sleep and looked again. I guess if I have to choose I would pick this one, but that is because it has a more retro/vintagey appeal and I am so into the vintage. The other one in the black and white is also really nice. They each just have a different feel. Did you ever contact Keren at Free Pretty Things? She might come up with something that is a combination of the two for you. She is really up and coming, honestly the best I have found. It might be worth just talking to her through email and seeing what she thinks. Her graphics alone make people click on your blog when they see a button. I'm getting tons of hits just because I am affiliated with her. I told her what I liked and what I was hoping for and crossed my fingers. I was in tears when I saw what she came up with, because this was the most important thing to me to have a great graphics. Your graphics or button is sometimes the only thing anyone will see, but if it catches the eye they will come visit you. Once they get there it is up to you to have a good blog, but you have to get them there! I think you definitely have a marketable product and will do well. It is hard to get started. You are a smart cookie making sure your blog is as appealing as it can be. I'm just now getting stuff to put in my Etsy shop.
I hope my comments help even a little. Everybody is different and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think once you get going you will do really well because you really have a talent. good luck!! Let me know what you end up with. Did we already realize we are neighbors? I can't remember, getting senile! :)
